Three heirs of the property began acquiring more and more acreage and eventually sold the holdings to SouthPark developer, Smoky Bissell, for $20 million in 1995. Ballantyne was named after Bissell's maternal grandmother. Homebuilding in Ballantyne began shortly after this purchase in 1996.
